About this tour

The political heart of the Netherlands

Duration2 hours
Group sizeUp to 20
Price€199
For 4 people that is €49.75 each

Discover the highlights of The Hague on a private walking tour through the political heart of the Netherlands, where royal palaces, government buildings and elegant streets sit only minutes apart. Your guide leads you through The Hague (or Den Haag in Dutch) at whatever pace suits your group, sharing the best stories behind the buildings you pass.

Along the way, you will walk past the Binnenhof, the oldest government building still in use anywhere in the world, and hear how The Hague grew into a modern political capital. You will pass the Hofvijver, the royal Noordeinde Palace and the grand facades of Lange Voorhout, before wandering into De Passage, the country’s oldest covered shopping arcade.

You will also get an insider’s view of the Dutch political system and the House of Orange, from the King’s role today to our modern parliament and senate. And keep your eyes open: The Hague is small enough that spotting a Dutch politician, or even the Prime Minister, on the street is not unusual, and your guide will happily point out who is who.

This tour normally takes about two hours, but it is a private tour, so you set the pace. It can easily be combined with a private tour of the Mauritshuis Museum for a deeper dive into the Dutch Golden Age.

“Our guide Leon was extremely likeable. He gave us a great deal of really interesting information about The Hague, and put it across in an entertaining and lively way. We were able to agree the meeting point and time flexibly with him. It was a wonderful walk with him and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommended!”

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this tour and the Mauritshuis tour?

This tour is the 2 hour walking tour, outdoors, through the city centre. The Mauritshuis tour (€199 per group, 1 hour, museum tickets not included) happens inside the museum, in front of the paintings. They are made to be combined: most guests do the walk first and the museum after, and your guide can run both back to back.

We have half a day. Should we add Delft or Rotterdam?

Both combination tours run about 4.5 hours and cost €300 plus €12.50 per person, with a maximum of 20 people per guide. Choose Delft if you want more of the same era, canals, Delft Blue and the Dutch Golden Age. Choose Rotterdam if you want the contrast, a skyline of modern architecture right after a morning of royal palaces.

Can we see The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam in one day?

Yes. The three-city day is 8 hours, from €600, and includes lunch in Delft. It is a full day and it moves quickly, so book it if you have one day in the region and want to use all of it. If you would rather take your time in one city, this 2 hour tour is the better fit.

Do I need to book my private tour in advance?

We recommend booking in advance to guarantee availability, but we can often accommodate last minute requests too. For a tour at short notice, call, text or WhatsApp us at +31 6 46 52 69 11.

Can my tour start at a different time than the ones listed?

Yes. We offer flexible start times for all private walking tours. Add your preferred time in the booking comments or contact us directly and we will adjust the schedule for you.

Can I change the meeting point of my tour?

Yes. As long as it is within the city center, you can choose your own meeting point. If you prefer to begin at your hotel, a restaurant or another central location, simply add it as a comment during your booking and we will make sure our guide meets you there.

Can I be picked up and dropped off in another city?

Yes. Pick-up and drop-off can be added to this tour. Add a comment to your booking or contact us to arrange it.

In which languages are the tours available?

We offer our tours in English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Italian.

What is the group size for a private tour?

You book the guide for your group only, we do not combine you with other travelers. For the best experience, we advise a maximum of 20 participants per guide.

How much walking is involved?

This is a relaxed walking tour through the compact city center, covering the Binnenhof, Hofvijver, Noordeinde Palace, Lange Voorhout and De Passage. Your guide sets the pace to suit your group.

Are the tours weather-dependent?

Our tours run rain or shine. Only in case of extreme weather will we contact you to reschedule.

Is a gratuity included in the tour price?

No, a gratuity is not included but always appreciated if you enjoyed your tour.

What if I am dissatisfied with my tour?

We stand behind every tour we offer. If you are not satisfied, let us know and we will make it right.

Can I buy a tour as a gift for someone else?

Yes. Book the tour as normal and let us know it is a gift, or contact us and we will help arrange it.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your private tour free of charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time, for a full refund.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

The Hague’s historic centre has cobblestones, narrow pavements and a few steps at certain stops, so it is not fully wheelchair accessible the way a modern building would be. Tell us about any mobility needs when you book, and your guide will plan the route and pace around them as much as the city allows.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Yes. Every tour is private, so your guide can adjust the pace, the stories and the length to suit children in your group. Just mention their ages when you book.

Can I bring my dog on the tour?

Let us know when you book if you’d like to bring a dog along, and we’ll confirm what’s possible for that particular tour.

How will I recognize my guide at the meeting point?

About a week before your tour, we’ll send you a reminder email with your guide’s name and phone number, along with the meeting point and time. If you don’t spot each other right away, just call or message them.

Do you take large or school groups?

Yes. For larger groups we split you across multiple guides rather than combining you with strangers or putting everyone on one bus, so it stays personal and everyone can still hear and ask questions. Tell us your group size and we’ll arrange it.

Can you go inside the Peace Palace or visit the international courts?

Inside the Peace Palace only on a guided tour booked with the palace itself, held on a limited number of days and requiring an original passport or ID. The free Visitors Centre at the gate opens more often. When the International Court of Justice holds public hearings, anyone may attend.

Can we visit the Binnenhof or watch parliament?

The Binnenhof is closed for renovation until 2031, so the tour shows it from outside. The House of Representatives sits in a temporary building nearby, and ProDemos runs a 60 minute English tour of it for €7.50. Register online in advance and bring an original passport or ID.

Which museums in The Hague are open on Mondays?

The Mauritshuis is, from 13:00. Escher in Het Paleis, Panorama Mesdag and the Kunstmuseum are closed on Mondays. If Monday is your day in The Hague, combine this walk with our Mauritshuis tour in the afternoon.

Can we see the King?

Only from outside. Noordeinde Palace, on the walk, is his working palace and is not open to visitors. His one public procession is Prinsjesdag, the third Tuesday of September, when the royal carriage procession rides through the centre. The next one is on 21 September 2027.
